Known Sri Lankan human rights activist Ruki Fernando has said the world should support growing resistance to political and communal discriminations in his country. Speaking in a webinar organized by the South Asia Democracy Watch (SDW), in collaboration with Amnesty International and SMU Human Rights Program, he said the youth, working groups, women, and minorities are strongly resisting the ongoing discrimination in Sri Lanka against religious and ethnic minorities. Responding to a panel comprising Dr. Qaisar Abbas and Ambreen Khan of SDW and Krishanti Darmaraj of Rutgers University, he discussed widespread atrocities against minorities and violations of human rights in Sri Lanka. He said communal tensions are on the rise due to government policies. Rick Halperin, Director of SMU Human Rights Progam moderated the webinar.
